Fixed-price Moodle upgrades to the current LTS.
Staging clone, plugin-by-plugin compatibility check, test report and a written rollback plan — agreed as a fixed price before anything starts.
Why upgrade now
The single best signal that it's time: your Moodle version is out of security support, or will be soon.
| Version on your site | Security support ends | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 4.1 LTS and older | 8 Dec 2025 (ended) | Unsupported No security fixes since Dec 2025. |
| 4.2 / 4.3 / 4.4 | Already ended | Unsupported Out of security support now. |
| 4.5 LTS | 4 Oct 2027 | Supported Fine today; plan the move to 5.3 LTS in your 2027 budget. |
| 5.0 | 5 Oct 2026 | Ending soon Security fixes stop 5 Oct 2026. |
| 5.1 | 19 Apr 2027 | Supported Note: 5.1 also needs a web-server path change for the new /public directory. |
| 5.2 | 4 Oct 2027 | Supported Next LTS is 5.3. |
| 5.3 LTS (planned 5 Oct 2026) | 1 Oct 2029 | Target The version most upgrades should land on. |
5.x also drops Oracle support and raises the PHP floor (8.2 for 5.0/5.1, 8.3 for 5.2). Not sure what you're running? Check your version free.
What's included
1. Health Check — $390
A full scan of your Moodle version, PHP/database compatibility and plugin-by-plugin compatibility against the current LTS, delivered as a RAG risk table in 5 working days. Credited in full if you upgrade with us.
2. Staging & audit
We clone your site to staging, back it up, and audit every installed plugin for compatibility before touching anything.
3. Upgrade, test, rollback plan

Frequently asked questions
How much does an upgrade cost?
Fixed prices, not hourly: a Health Check is $390 (credited to any upgrade). A standard single-site upgrade to the current LTS is $2,400. More complex or rescue upgrades — for example migrating off Oracle, or heavy custom code — start from $4,800. The Health Check gives you a firm number for your site.
Why fixed price instead of hourly?
So you know the cost before we start, and there's no incentive on our side to take longer. If a site turns out more complex than expected, we tell you and agree a revised fixed price before doing extra work — never a surprise invoice.
How long does an upgrade take?
A standard single-site upgrade is typically 2–3 weeks from signed agreement and staging access: about a week for backup, staging and plugin audit, a week for the upgrade and testing, and time for your review before go-live.
Will the upgrade break our site?
We always work on a staging clone first, never directly on production, and agree a written rollback plan before go-live. If something goes wrong at cutover, we roll back rather than leave you on a broken site.
What happens to our plugins?
Every plugin is checked for compatibility with the target version before we touch anything. Compatible plugins get updated as part of the upgrade; unmaintained ones are flagged so we can agree together whether to replace, disable, or budget extra work for them.
We're on Oracle — is that a problem?
Oracle support was removed from Moodle as of version 5.0, so a database migration to PostgreSQL or MySQL/MariaDB is needed first. That's treated as a Complex/Rescue engagement (from $4,800), not a standard upgrade.
